Why Cops out of Schools?
“WHEN [POLICE] ARE IN MY LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AND MY SCHOOL DISTRICT PREACHES DIVERSITY AND RECONCILIATION, IT JUST DOESN’T MAKE ME FEEL GOOD.” – STUDENT
We want schools to be places where all children and youth feel welcome, safe, and valued. Many Black, Indigenous, and racialized students and their families do not feel safe at schools where police are present. Recent research demonstrates the ineffectiveness and negative impacts of their presence. We call for the immediate end to School Liaison Officer Programs and the redirection of investments into community-led programs in schools that benefit all students.
